The project is for the construction of a new six-bedroom house including a basement, swimming pool, gym, bar and cinema room with an adjoining double garage and guest suite above. There is also a large garden room with dining and living areas and a kitchen for entertaining.
Aldenham Grove is a private road with large residential properties of varying size and architectural style. A large basement and lightwell take advantage of significant level changes on the site to gain direct access to the garden at the rear.
Mature trees and soft landscape on the frontage of the original site will be retained to screen the house from the road and maintain the client’s privacy.
The proposed dwelling is located at the back of the site over the footprint of the smaller house it where levels are more favourable. The ‘front’ entrance off the new courtyard faces the rear boundary so that all of the living accommodation is oriented towards the south-facing front of the site where views over the new landscape grounds and access to sunlight are optimum.
External elevations are in natural stone with large areas of glazing to address double-height internal spaces and a slate roof set behind a parapet.
We continued our involvement in the project to prepare Building Regulations and working drawings for construction.
