Eliot Place, Harpenden
Client: Marchfield
Eliot Place is a development of 11 detached and semi-detached houses in the grounds of a large detached property in Crabtree Lane.
The site is adjacent to the Conservation Area and there were lengthy consultations with St Albans District Council’s Planning and Conservation Officers about the layout of the new houses and their detailed design.
Following a character analysis of residential development in the Conservation Area, references for architectural design, detailing and external materials were taken from a number of historical properties in Spencer Road which is immediately to the west of the site.
One house takes the form of a two-sided gatehouse at the entrance to the development. Semi-detached houses either side of the access road lead to four large detached houses at the end of the cul-de-sac to close the view and form a focal point from Crabtree Lane.
