Design proposals for the conversion of a builder’s storage unit in Green Belt and neighbouring a Grade II Listed former Rectory.
The existing building was recently built and had simple elevations in brick and profiled steel cladding. The roof had a very shallow pitch which gave the building a distinctly commercial character. This invited a contemporary design approach in contrast to the more traditional local character.
Planning permission was granted for converting the building into a bespoke four bedroom dwelling and open plan living areas which relate directly to the rural surroundings.
The structural steel frame is retained and elevations are to be remodelled with the addition of vertical boarding and large minimalist window frames to give panoramic views to the open countryside.
Simple pergolas to provide shelter over external amenity areas and solar shading will bring a residential feel to the building and help merge its quite geometric form into the landscape.
