Longford Farm, Great Gaddesden
Client: Marchfield
Three individually designed houses to replace disused poultry sheds and agricultural outbuildings on a prominent site off St Margarets.
The largest house was conceived as the farmhouse with the other two slightly less imposing buildings forming part of a cluster of farmyard buildings which is typical in the Chilterns.
Scale and external appearance were the subject of much discussion with Dacorum Borough Council’s Planning and Conservation Officers who were concerned to protect uninterrupted views to Longford Farm from Gade Valley. A visual impact study established that the new houses would have no adverse effect on these views.
The architectural design and choice of materials sympathises with the rural setting and follows principles set out in the Chilterns Building Design Guide.
